Folio

Image viewing should be
fast, quiet, and clean.

Open a folder and browse continuously. Compare up to 4 images side by side, remove GPS and device metadata, batch rename, and convert formats. Everything runs locally, and Folio exports new files by default instead of overwriting originals.

Why Folio

A lightweight viewer with the tools photographers actually need.

System viewers are limited. Pro suites are heavy. Folio sits in the middle: fast browsing with practical local tools built in.

Browse folders continuously

Open a folder, get an image queue, and move through thousands of files with the keyboard. Thumbnails and previews are generated in the background.

Inspect and clean Exif

View Exif, XMP, IPTC, GPS, and MakerNotes fields. Remove privacy-sensitive metadata by preset or field and export a clean copy.

Compare multiple images

Use 2-up, 3-up, or 4-up layouts and step through image groups. Picking, checking sharpness, and comparing variants becomes much faster.

Batch rename safely

Replace, delete, sequence, or use MD5/SHA1 templates. Dry-run previews catch duplicates, illegal names, and collisions before execution.

Convert formats

Output JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, or TIFF with format-specific options. On macOS, HEIC, HEIF, JPEG XL, and BMP can be used as inputs.

Save to target folders

Copy files to selected folders with naming rules and conflict policies. Folio copies files instead of moving or modifying originals.

Format support

Common formats open directly. Modern formats use cached previews.

Folio detects real formats from file headers instead of trusting extensions. Formats Chromium cannot decode directly are converted into safe lightweight previews in the main process.

Privacy is the default

Clean traces before sharing.

GPS coordinates, device serial numbers, capture time, and software metadata can leak more than expected. Folio makes cleanup a normal part of browsing, with conservative safety rules:

  • Local-firstNo uploads, no Exif collection, and no scanning folders you did not choose.
  • No original overwrite by defaultMetadata cleanup, conversion, and save workflows export new files unless you explicitly choose otherwise.
  • Traceable batch workPreview, confirm, and keep logs. Failures do not delete or damage originals.
  • Auto modeApply a cleanup rule while browsing and export clean copies for the current session.

Export new file Clean and export

Turning off export-new overwrites in place and requires another confirmation.

Differentiator

Four images on one screen. Faster picks, clearer comparisons.

Find the sharpest frame in a burst, compare variants, or choose a cover image. Side-by-side viewing makes differences visible at a glance.
